eHarmony is the leading serious dating site with 20 million members and a focus on proven psychological research to power their matching system. Dr. Neil Clark Warren is a well-respected psychologist specializing in relationship and marriage, and he has worked on eHarmony's matching technology for over 7 years.
eHarmony focuses on giving you fewer, but higher quality matches. They filter through their huge database to match you with people who you are most likely to be compatible with. We found that many of our matches we were not attracted to - but the point of eHarmony's system is not to match based on looks but to match based on more in-depth personality traits. We don't know how this whole thing works, but the fact that over 200 people who met on eHarmony get married each day is a pretty startling statistic and shows they must be doing something right.
Our major complaint with eHarmony is the pricing - which starts at $20 per month and goes up from there. It's not a cheap service, and we understand that their focus is on quality, but we feel the pricing is high. We prefer to use multiple dating services, to see which ones work best for us and have the most matches in our area, but its hard to do that when the services are priced at over $20 per month.
We used eHarmony for 4 weeks and were matched up with dozens of people we liked. We appreciated that the system does a lot of filtering for you so there's less need to spend time filtering through "junk" matches that you get on many other sites. We went of 4 dates with people we met on eHarmony (we tested in the SF Bay Area) and we had a good experience with these. We did get a general sense that there were no "blowups" or weirdos we met on eHarmony, which is something you usually contend with on other dating sites. The people we met were all decent, nice, friendly and people we'd keep in contact with, if not continue dating. That was a pretty good testimonial to us for eHarmony.
Browse profiles on eHarmonyeHarmony is known for its sophisticated matching technology. The questionnaire is very in-depth and takes a good 30 minutes, so be prepared. But the results are well worth it, the site has had many years to perfect its technology, and you really get some attractive, well-qualified candidates.
Very detailed questions, but they are thought-provoking and often include questions you might ask a potential mate in a conversation.
eHarmony definitely has the highest quality base of members. You find lots of attractive, intelligent, successful people on the site. The in-depth questionnaire definitely filters out the people who aren't serious nor willing to invest the time and money into finding the right match.
Its fun to see the snapshot of what people are looking for. eHarmony does a great job of introducing enough information about people so you know whether you want to contact them.
